What are our Marine Development, Consenting and Compliance services?

Our Marine Development, Consenting and Compliance team provides the environmental and technical expertise needed to support marine and coastal developments from concept through to construction, operation and decommissioning. We deliver the assessments, management plans and specialist studies required to inform project design, secure marine consents and planning approvals, and ensure compliance with environmental legislation throughout the project lifecycle.

Working across a wide range of marine and coastal developments, our multidisciplinary specialists provide Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), environmental management plans, carbon, marine and coastal ecology and ornithology assessments, air quality and noise assessments, geo-environmental and sediment sampling and analysis services, marine and terrestrial archaeology, and landscape and seascape visual impact assessments. By integrating these disciplines, we help clients identify and manage environmental risks, meet regulatory requirements and deliver sustainable, well-designed projects with confidence.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

We can provide a comprehensive range of services, from Screening through to Scoping and compilation of Environmental Impact Assessments for Marine and Coastal projects. We work collaboratively with you to incorporate integrated environmental impact assessments into the planning and design process, minimising adverse impacts and ensuring that developments meet regulatory requirements while delivering positive outcomes for you, the environment and local communities We have extensive experience and a proven track record in the Marine consenting process.

Dredge/Construction Environmental Management Plans (DEMP / CEMP)

The dredge environmental management plan (DEMP) or construction management plan (CEMP) provides a high-level framework of how environmental impacts associated with dredging and construction works will be managed. The plan identifies the environmental issues associated with the works.

The DEMP or CEMP outlines the mitigation and management principles for the environmental issues, providing example measures where appropriate. The plan will site specific measures are to be defined by the contractor, once appointed.

It describes the monitoring of the key environmental issues and also outlines how the requirements of the DEMP/CEMP are to be implemented, particularly with regards to protocols and procedures.

Decommissioning Waste Assessment & Mapping

Cura Terrae provides Waste Assessment and Mapping in relation to the decommissioning of marine infrastructure. This involves a systematic review of material inventories, which quantifies and assesses suitable onshore disposal solutions for hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Carbon Assessment

We will produce a carbon assessment that quantifies the carbon footprint associated with the construction and operational phase of the project. Working with the design team, Cura Terrae will then identify potential mitigation or carbon efficient solutions for the project.

Air Quality

We can produce qualitatitive and modelled air quality studies used to determine how a proposed development will affect local air pollution levels. We will assess both construction and operational phases associated with the project to assess the potential impacts to air quality. We can provide air quality monitoring and assessment during both construction and operational phases.

Underwater and Terrestrial Noise Assessment

Our acoustics team are specialists in environmental noise and vibration, providing tailored advice and support to our clients across a wide range of sectors. We help deliver successful projects by encouraging consideration of acoustic constraints at an early stage, providing support from site feasibility through to planning, design, construction and commissioning phases. Our team are all members of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA).

We have the capability to produce noise impact assessments associated with underwater and terrestrial noise sources, both during construction and operation of a facility.

We will produce quantitative modelled assessments incorporating source characterisation, propagation modelling, receptor analysis and mitigation options appraisal. Engaging with the design team, Cura Terrae identifies effective construction and operational approaches to mitigate and manage potential noise impacts to support client goals.

Geo-Environmental

Our geo-environmental team provide a full range of services from initial desk based due diligence assessments through intrusive site investigation and remedial design and implementation. Our team have extensive experience in designing, managing and implementing both terrestrial and marine site investigations to inform development design, assess and address issues associated with contaminated land and sediment and provide specialist advice in relation to waste classification and disposal options for soils and sediment.

Marine and Terrestrial Archaeology

Our Archaeology and Heritage services provide independent guidance and support in all elements of the historic environment, including archaeology, historic buildings and historic landscapes. We offer both consultancy and fieldwork, from geophysics to full excavation and can manage the process from design to implementation. We can offer technical support for both terrestrial and submerged cultural heritage.

Landscape and Seascape Visual Impact Assessment

Landscape and seascape impacts are changes in the character and quality of the landscape as a result of a proposed development.  The landscape/seascape and visual impact assessment (LSVIA) identifies the areas of landscape and seascape that may be impacted as a result of the proposed development. The assessment will assess the likely effects on these receptors and identify mitigation measures to either avoid, reduce or compensate for these impacts.
